To be honest, I’m not really sure why these mittens make me think of the National Historic Site at Grand Pré, which remembers the Acadians who were forcibly ejected from the area by the English government of the day in Le Grand Dérangement of 1755. Maybe the pointiness of the diamonds reminds me of the roofline of the Memorial Church on site? All I know is that I kept thinking about Grand Pré while knitting these mittens so that’s that.
