Which has given way to yet another day of unrelenting sun and heat and humidity.
Sigh.
Like a proud new mother, my main focus these days is taking pictures of the chickens.
Seriously, I have a million of these.
They’re just so photogenic.
Right? Right?
Maybe that’s just another new mother thing – thinking my babies are the cutest ever?
No, they are.
Oooohh!!
They are beyond adorable. LOVE the columbian rocks – if any of those go missing you may want to check my coop! 🙂
Little RIR is so cute too. Awwww.
Aren’t chickens the best?
They’re turning into real chickens!
Good boy! Right answer.
That little RIR on the right in the top picture is definitely the runt of the litter. I’m kind of worried because he’s growing so much slower than the rest, but he certainly makes up for it in attitude.
Yeah, it’ll be great until the roosters start crowing.
all babies? where are the parents? how do your dogs like them?
We bought them as day old chicks at the beginning of July (although some were a week or two older, I think) and they’re straight-run, which means a mix of girls and boys. The girls will become our laying hens and the boys will go into the freezer before winter. One rooster might make the cut, though, so we can try for our own chicks next year. We’ll see how it goes. The dogs, somewhat predictably, are intimidated and do not like going anywhere near the run. The chickens are a little too in-your-face for the dogs’ liking.
That’s not a fair contest. It’s just a photo. He can’t fool me.
I could have sworn he had ears. I never noticed how much he looks like a light bulb.
Peeing on the floor makes your ears fall off. Fact.
It must be different with humans or most kids would have lost their ears at some point along the way.
Chickens are just so expressive.
For instance, here’s a Barred Plymouth Rock chick looking suspicious:
And a Columbian Plymouth Rock looking suspicious wary:
And a couple Rhode Island Reds regarding me with suspicion skepticism:
This guy is a touch suspicious doubtful:
Whereas this one is exhibiting a distinct suspicion lack of trust:
These ones are sharing their suspicions reservations with one another:
And this one is slightly suspicious apprehensive, even in his sleep:
Easy there, chickens. This rollercoaster of emotions is wearing me out.
I’m not so sure about the guy in picture 3 being doubtful. I would have to call that trepidation. You can clearly tell by the tension evident in the corner of his beak.
I stand corrected.
Sometimes life is so bloody unfair I could just spit.
Farewell, Aunt Lilianne.
Tenacious, funny, loving and gone way too soon at 61.
She was a gem and will be missed desperately by everyone who knew her.
One response to “misty morning”
Well, I hope you get some more overcast days – your favourite kind of beautiful weather.
