flowers
June already
It’s been a challenging year so far, thanks to issues that aren’t mine to discuss in a place like this, and every time I think of the blog, I sigh and think ‘maybe tomorrow’. It’s hard to know what to write when I have both a lot and nothing to say, and I haven’t even been able to drum up any enthusiasm for posting photos or book reviews or ridiculous memes. Maybe a giant bouquet of lilacs can bust me out of this funk?
and so it begins
The forty million bulbs we planted last November are just beginning to poke their heads up and the prizes for earliest risers go to:
I should have been named Flora
me: Maybe I should take a brisk walk out to the river and back to get a bit of fresh air and clear out the cobwebs. But brisk, mind you, because I have a lot to do. Busy busy.
me, a few minutes later: I’ll just pick these raspberries first to eat on the way. Ooh, look at the big pawprints in the mud. Aw, now that’s a pretty leaf and, oh look, another one. And another one. And another. Oh wow, there are still so many weeds in bloom. Amazing. I’d better stop to take a picture of every single one. And pick a few to make a bouquet.
me, grumbling before bed: Why do I get so little done in a day? Stupid housework.
here at Sunchoke Farm
Whatever kind of soil sunchokes/Jerusalem artichokes/Helianthus tuberosus require, we have it. I don’t know where they came from because I didn’t plant them, but the sunchoke patch continues to spread every year and, if left unchecked, will soon be visible from space.
back to bouquets
Woohoo! *insert GIF of cat putting on sunglasses* Summer is receding at last and the blog is finally back after being wiped out by some butthead who attacked the server this site is hosted on, along with several others, ruining the work of thousands of innocent bloggers and businesses for nothing. I will never, ever understand the point of punishing people who haven’t done anything to you, which means, I suppose, that I pass the psychopath test. Yay!
I started to catch up on some long-neglected weeding in the veg garden this morning and then made this:
It was too breezy to get a photo of it outdoors so the kitchen will have to do. Brown-eyed Susies, phlox, maple leaves, potentilla and yarrow. Not pictured: 4000 cubic metres of mint. If you need mint, I can probably help with that.
today’s bouquet
Maple leaves, brown-eyed susies, shasta daisies, veronica, yarrow, mint, vetch and wild asters.
