a bright red baby blanket

I’ve knit dozens of baby blankets over the years and photographed very few of them, mostly because I forget, but also because it’s hard. How to make a big square of fabric look more enticing than just a big square of fabric? Luckily, Foster photographed this one, which was a gift for our lovely friend Amanda who is due in August.

the next generation of robins

Two robins have been hanging around the backyard all spring, abducting earthworms from the vegetable gardens and giving us the what-for any time we venture close to the opening under the deck. Here’s why.

mama and the ducklings

There are two families of ducks that regularly march through our yard, looping around the gardens, and you’d think it would be easy to grab a photo of a procession like this, but they move fast. I snapped this from the dining room window as they zoomed by in the rain, so please forgive the blurriness.

an embarrassment of saskatoon berries

It took me about an hour this morning to pick three and a half pounds of saskatoon berries, which are seriously over-achieving this year. These went directly into a crisp, whereas the seven pounds plus that Robin, Foster and I picked last night went into jam or the freezer. Only another four thousand pounds to go.

bouquet for July 3, 2021

I make a lot of bouquets around here and rarely think to photograph them, but today I did. Roses, lady’s mantle, lamb’s ears, rose campion, brown-eyed Susans, and maple leaves.
